You Won't Find a Better Selection of Kids Bikes Near You

Visit our local bike shop when looking for kids’ bikes in the Mt. Kisco area. We have top brand kids’ bikes for sale at our bike store.

Kids bikes can help give your child freedom, fun, and a step toward independence.  Choosing the right size bike is critical. Unlike adult bikes, where sizing depends on frame size, wheel size determines a kids’ bike fit.

The most common wheel sizes are 12", 16", 20", and 24". Your child should be able to stand over the bike’s top tube with both feet planted on the ground. If you’re concerned about getting the right fit, we’re here to help. Our bike staff will make sure it’s a perfect fit.

Make Sure You Get the Right Sized Bike

Don't purchase just any kids' bike. You need to take certain things into account before buying.

First, make sure you buy a bike that fits your child. Unlike a clothing purchase, never buy a bike that's too large for your kids with the notion they'll grow into it. A bike too large impacts their ability to control and maneuver the bike.

Second, pay attention to wheel size, ranging from 12 inches to 26 inches. You need to find a wheel size that fits your child.

Third, measure your child's inseam. It helps determine the size of the kids' bike you'll need. You want your child to be able to get off and on the bike as efficiently as possible.

Kids Bike Styles

Another consideration when buying a kids bike is the style of children’s bike you’d like:

  • Balance bikes have no pedals or bike chain; it’s just the frame and wheels. A balance bike is an excellent way to introduce your child to a bike before moving to a pedal bike.
  • Training wheel bikes add some stability and help boost your child’s confidence. When your tike is ready to roll on its own, you can remove the training wheels. Training wheel bikes come in 12" and 16" versions and fit children 2-6 years old.
  • A trailer bike attaches to your seat post or on a rear rack so it can pivot for turning. This kid’s bike version is generally good for 4- to 7-year-olds.
  • Mountain bikes are best for young riders who no longer need training wheels, and some have suspension forks to absorb shocks on the trail and usually come with 20" and 24" wheels. These fit riders from 6-11 years old.
